Focus on Brook Farm III: Photography & Artists’ Outing – Sunday, October 1 @ 2PM

Join New Brook Farm for the kickoff of the third annual FOCUS ON BROOK FARM arts event.

  • Explore the historic site of America’s most famous experiment in utopian communal life
  • Meet some of the “Brook Farmers” who will lead tours and tell you about life in the community and the years following
  • Learn about our season-long invitation to photographers, artists, poets, crafters, and all creative people to capture the beauty and meaning of the Brook Farm site, culminating in public exhibitions and receptions in the spring.
  • Bring your camera, sketch pad, and journal!
  • Free; donations gratefully received. Refreshments will be served.

The Women of Brook Farm – Saturday, November 18 @ 2PM

Come meet eight remarkable women who were members of or frequent visitors to the Brook Farm Institute of Agriculture and Education in West Roxbury from 1841 to 1847. New Brook Farm and the Boston Women’s Heritage Trail have created this reenactment to raise awareness of the important roles women played in the Brook Farm experiment.

Last October, New Brook Farm welcomed photographers to the Brook Farm Historic Site and invited them to send us their best photos. We chose twelve of our favorites for our second annual Focus on Brook Farm exhibition. Please stop by the Brookline Bank and see them. You’ll be impressed! View the photo gallery here.

Congratulations to the participating photographers: Sally Barkan, Alison Bell, Daria Casinelli, Christoph Gervais, Will Holton, Eileen McEnaney, Julia Tuttle, and Nancy Young.

We are recognizing the photographers at a reception on Sunday, March 12 at 6 p.m., downstairs at West on Centre. Please join us for complimentary hors d’oeuvres and soft drinks, cash bar, a slide show and brief presentation, and a chance to relax and socialize with our Brook Farm friends.  If you can attend, RSVP to info@newbrookfarm.org or call Gretchen O’Neill, 617-694-6407. New Brook Farm (NBF) invites you to shed a few calories and take in the scenery and fresh air at the Brook Farm Historic Site. Join us for a walk (weather permitting) and cup of cider on the day after Thanksgiving. There’s no program, but our board members will be happy to answer your questions about the property and its fascinating history as a utopian commune, Civil War encampment, and orphanage. We will meet at the print shop (the white building) at 1 p.m.

Theodore Parker Unitarian Universalist Church, 1859 Centre Street, West Roxbury, 02132

Come meet eight remarkable women who were members of or frequent visitors to Brook Farm. New Brook Farm and the Boston Women’s Heritage Trail have created this reenactment to raise awareness of the important roles women played in the Brook Farm experiment. In the beautiful sanctuary of Theodore Parker Church, members of NBF and BWHT portraying the Brook Farm women will speak from the same pulpit from which Rev. Theodore Parker preached to many of the original Brook Farmers in the 1840s.

A reception will follow the program.

Photographers and artists of all ages, media, and skill levels: Come out to explore and capture images with camera, sketch pad, and brush. Roslindale photographer Christoph Gervais will provide tips on taking outstanding photos. Brookline Bank will host an exhibition of works this winter.

Refreshments will be available.

In case of inclement weather, we will postpone to Sunday, October 16.

After the event, we invite you to send us your photos and artistic representations of Brook Farm. We will choose images that represent the many faces of the site, frame them, and exhibit them at Brookline Bank, West Roxbury this winter. A reception for all participants is also planned.

We will post all images submitted on our website, newbrookfarm.org.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING IMAGES

  1. Deadline to submit images: November 12, 2016
  2.  All images must be taken at the Brook Farm Historic Site.
  3. Images should be uncompressed JPG files at the final image size (8”x10”) at 300 dpi. That ends up being about 3.5-4 megabytes as a file size.
  4. Rename each image as follows: Last name_First name_1 (or 2 or 3)
  5. Send each image attached in a separate e-mail to:
    info@newbrookfarm.org
    Subject line: “PHOTO [Your name]”
  6. In the body of your message, please describe where on the Brook Farm site the image was taken.
  7. By submitting your image(s), you agree that New Brook Farm, Inc. may display the image on its website, print it for public exhibition, and use it for publicity purposes. We may not sell your image or give it to a third party for use without your permission. You retain the copyright.
